Gabby (aka Gabriella), age 11 years. An American Eskimo Miniature, she was found at a pet shop in New York at the age of three months. When Lynn, her owner, took her out of the cage, she planted a big kiss on her forehead leaving behind the pink lipstick she was wearing. The storeowner commented that she had to take the puppy now that she had left her mark on it. Gabby is very protective, a "big blabber mouth", but lovable and a lot of fun. Owner: Lynn Koslow.

Smokey Joe, age 10 months. Eric found Smokey while he was walking home, Smokey was mewing, alone and lost. Eric scooped him up; the kitten barely filled his hand, and brought him home. Smokey has one damaged eye that he probably injured during his street days, but now he is happy, healthy and very loving. Staff: Eric Gustafson.

Lola (aka Puffy McFluffy), age 1+ years, used to sit in the downstairs window and try to play with us every time we walked up the stairs. She belonged to the girl in the apartment under us and we could hear Lola crying all by herself.
When her owner told us she was moving and couldn't take the cat and that she had asked all her friends and the non-exterminating pound would not take her.
So even though Eric was allergic to cats, he gave in to my sad looks and we gave her a loving home, even if she pretends not to notice. Staff: Katie Thielke.

Shulla In the Spring of 1997, Shulla's eventual owner heard this "voice" inside of her that kept saying" "Get a dog!" She finally called "Pet Haven of Minneapolis."
Her criteria: "small enough for a townhouse complex, self-contained, contemplative, not a barker, not in my face or lap all the time, a great car-traveler, multi-dimensional and interesting, an in-obtrusive but faithful, loving presence and I didn't care what breed or what color he/she was." Shulla was 3 then and is now almost 10. He is mostly Lhasa-Apso with some Tibetan Spaniel mixed in and the most soul-full ancient brown eyes. He seems to be a combination of a super-vigilant whimsical puppy and an old, refective man on a Tibetan mountain. He is 19 lbs and has maintained his same weight for 7 years. Owner: Martha Carey.

Booker is about a year and a half old. A coworker's dogs had puppies that were too cute to resist. Booker was always sticking his tongue out, so he was picked. He's just a mutt of some sort, maybe a lab and terrier mix, about 65-70 pounds (depending on how much junk food he eats) and full of more energy than his owner has ever seen. He has a strange love of cats and so some people in the neighborhood have been surprised to see us out walking in the morning with our cat Simba trotting behind us. He's a great watch dog and loves to take toys apart to find the squeeky.Owners: Samantha and Joseph Konwinski.
