Katrina Pet Relief
Here's How You Can Help

The following has been sent to us from Dr. Peeples:

Probably the easiest way to help is to donate funds. I imagine what you would spend in shipping goods is as much as the good themselves Also you can go to the online pet stores like PetSmart and place an order that will be delivered to whatever location you desire (like the LSU address). You can prepay for "gift cards" at pet stores if people can reach them to shop. Here are some other pet related charities to donate to:

  1. Take the Lead has begun a Katrina Relief Fund for those living in the federal designated disaster areas, who have been in purebred dogs five or more years and who have suffered damage from the hurricane. The fund is being publicized and is soliciting contributions. Take the Lead hopes that everyone will help with the effort as individuals and will seek the support of your kennel clubs.
No administrative costs will be used by TTL. All money will go directly to relief. Checks can be send directly to the Take the Lead office.

  2. As to helping Mississippi -- visit the GVMA site: http://www.gvma.net/ -- they coordinate with the affected states VMAs to help as well as humane societies.

  3. The Humane Society of the United States and the American Humane Association also have efforts underway.

  6. The homeless animals from Katrina are in desperate need of help all over the Gulf Coast area, but Yvette is trying to help those animals in her area after seeing first hand what is going on. She was at LSU Vet School in Baton Rouge this morning and they are over flowing with animals of all kinds. The place where the USASA Nationals were help this year is also over flowing with animals and people.

They are in desperate need of these items FANS, EXTENSION CORDS, CAGES OF ALL SIZES, FOOD & WATER BOWELS, LEASHES & COLLARS, FOOD of all kinds. These items can not be bought or are in very short supply down there at this time. Money can also be sent and will be put towards medical expenses. These items can be sent to: LSU Vet School
    John Parker Coliseum
    Emergency Animal Shelter
    Baton Rouge, LA 70803

Or items and money can be sent to Yvette LeBlanc
    30200 Barnette Rd.
    Denhem Springs, LA 70726
Please put in the memo area of your check Katrina Animal Emergency Fund, or call Yvette on her cell 225-964-2764 or at her grooming shop 225-667-2667 and see where your help is needed. Everything is tax deductible and receipts will be sent back to all who donate.

What is being seen on the news Yvette said isn't even touching just how serious things are down there. 100's and even 1000's of animals are homeless with no feed, water, or medical attention. People are standing on the streets trying to give their animals away due to no place to go with them or money to care for them.

People can also purchase items online through PetSmart, Petco, Wal-Mart, and other pet supply companies and have them ship directly to LSU or Yvette. Things are in a desperate situation now and any kind of help is needs ASAP. My friends and I are going to our local stores and asking for their help. We are going to the local $1 stores buying collars, leashes and bowels to send to Yvette.

  7. The Mississippi Animal Relief Fund has been established by the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association. These funds will be used for victim assistance, animal welfare, infrastructure rebuilding, assistance to veterinarians devastated by this disaster and for disaster preparedness. This fund will be administered by the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association in cooperation with the State Veterinarian. Donations may be sent to "The Mississippi Animal Relief Fund"
