A friend of mine recently discovered Venus De Milo and fell in love with the place. I hadn’t made my way into Venus in years, so when she suggested we go on the weekend of Halloween, our posse gladly accepted. In an effort to keep anonymous, I won’t disclose our costumes for the night, but let’s just say we were scantily clad, and the few blocks we walked to get there seemed to take an eternity on that chilly night. However, it was all worth it, once we arrived.
The place was filled, to the point of feeling claustrophobic, with people decked out in every costume imaginable. Balloons, cobwebs, and candles made for a most festive atmosphere. Surprisingly, despite the crowd, the bar staff was quick and efficient, and the rate reasonable. We managed to meander our way through the masses, to their upper deck outside. There was plenty of room for us on the deck, with wrought iron tables and chairs, and due to the tall brick buildings surrounding us on all sides, the chill of the night did not seem to bother anyone. It was there that we met up with other acquaintances, and the ladies in our group were handed roses from a gentleman dressed as the Phantom, from Phantom of the Opera. I must give kudos to Venus for contributing to our Halloween fun. The staff was friendly, the bathrooms were immaculate for the swarms of folks in attendance, the drinks reasonable, and the atmosphere was more thought out than any other establishment we attended that night. I look forward to going back on a slower night, and I encourage anyone that is looking for a change of pace to visit Venus for a memorable experience. --Review by Gypsy Leigh |
